The Carrigan-Conway Company, of which “Bill” Carrigan of the Boston Americans and Eddie Conway are members, will open a cigar store at 28 Ash Street in a short time. The company has manufactured cigars for the past two years and as the proprietors have many friends it is believed that their store will be as popular as their cigars.
50 years ago, 1960
Lewiston city park was littered with political material early today after the departure of Sen. John F. Kennedy.
Many of the thousands of persons who waited for the Massachusetts senator came with various political signs, Kennedy pictures, hats and buttons. In the wild reception and departure, some were broken or ripped from their owners and fell to the ground.
The ground was also spotted with confetti, which Kennedy was showered with on a couple of occasions.

Auburn City Manager Charles A. Morrison is scheduled to meet Wednesday morning to find out what 27 area towns think of his proposal to renegotiate contracts with towns who haul their trash to Auburn’s energy recovery plant.
The towns have long-term contracts with the city that stipulate one of three rate schedules for disposing of their trash at the plant. The pacts, however, were tied to the price of oil, which has dropped considerably since original negotiations. The plant therefore has been operating at a loss.
