AUBURN — Herbert “Eddie” Edson Donnell, 93, a resident of Leeds Junction Road, Wales, died Sunday, Nov. 7, at Hospice House.

He was born Nov. 22, 1916, in Wales, the son of Ralph L. and Gertrude Hathaway Donnell. Herbert was educated in the Wales schools and graduated from Monmouth Academy in 1935. On Aug. 4, 1947, in Monmouth, he married Marion Otis of Wales; they celebrated their 63rd anniversary this year. Eddie was a dairy farmer; in 1966, he joined Clement Smith of Monmouth to form Clemdow Farms. He retired from farming in 1979.

Herbert was a life-member of Monmouth Lodge, AF & AM, life-member of OES, member of Monmouth Congregation Society and the United Church of Monmouth, Monmouth Historical Society and the Wales History Group. He also served in various capacities in the town of Wales, such as board of selectmen, planning board, budget committee and the school board.

Herbert was a founding member of NAMI-RAFTS of Lewiston-Auburn and a founding member and first vice president of NAMI-ME; the purpose of these groups was to help the mentally ill.

He is survived by his wife, Marion of Wales; his daughter, Norma Leonard of Lewiston; his son, Wayne Donnell of Augusta; grandchildren, Scott Donnell, Jason Donnell and Heather Pelletier; great-grandchildren, Cohen Donnell of Wales and Alicia Pelletier of Lewiston.

He was predeceased by a brother, Wilbur Donnell, who died of the Hong Kong flu in 1969.
