MEXICO — The efforts of three local law enforcement agencies resulted in the arrest of Jon Andrews, 36, of Main Street, on felony charges of forgery and trafficking in cocaine on Monday.
Mexico police Sgt. Roy Hodsdon, who headed the investigation, said Andrews was arrested at his home at 8:30 a.m., after police received tips that counterfeit $10 and $20 bills were being circulated from Andrews’ apartment.
Hodsdon said the Mexico and Rumford police department had received complaints of the bogus bills last week from several businesses in the area.
With a search warrant, police found about 12 grams of cocaine and various drug paraphernalia, along with an unspecified number of fake bills.
Andrews was taken to the Oxford County jail in Paris where he remains in lieu of $3,000 cash bail. He is scheduled to appear in Oxford County Superior Court on Feb. 18, 2011.
Hodsdon said Andrews was cooperative during the search and arrest.
Each of the felony charges carries penalties of up to 10 years.
Along with Hodsdon, Chief Jim Theriault and Mexico officer Dan Carrier, Rumford Sgt. James Bernard, acting Cpl. Lawrence Winson, officer Joseph Sage, and Oxford County Sheriff’s Office Cpl. Chancey Libby and Sgt. Tim Holland assisted.
Hodsdon said Andrews has a lengthy criminal record in Massachusetts. He moved to Mexico about four months ago.
