LEWISTON — A driver and her passenger were injured Tuesday when the woman lost control of her car on Knox Street at about 4:30 p.m.

The car rolled onto the sidewalk and stopped after becoming lodged between the apartment building at 6 Knox St. and a streetlight pole.

Lewiston police and paramedics were able to remove the driver and passenger from the car. The two were taken by ambulance to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center with minor injuries, Sgt. Brian O’Malley said.

Though responding officers considered the situation stable at 5 p.m., O’Malley said the car just missed hitting the gas line into the building. Jean Forgues, who lives on Knox Street and witnessed the accident, said it appeared the driver was distracted by obstructions caused by ongoing roadwork at the corner of Knox and Spruce streets.

The names of the driver and her passenger were not released Tuesday night.
