I agree wholeheartedly with Philip Meyer (letter, Nov. 9). In this atmosphere of big box stores and global warming, it’s more important than ever to buy local.
Blackie’s Farm Stand is a great place to purchase locally grown produce at a great price and you’re supporting a local farmer/businessman.
Axis Natural Foods is a store that offers natural and local products and, now that they are moving to the old Movie Gallery storefront on Center Street, they will be able to offer even more of a selection.
Can you say whoopie pie? Labadie’s Bakery certainly can and they have been operating on Lincoln Street in Lewiston since 1925.
Also, there’s no better place to go for morning coffee and a muffin than Nezinscot Farms on Turner Center Road in Turner. You can sit on their porch, watch the sunrise and listen to the activity of a working farm. Being able to watch the cows come to the barn for their morning milking is priceless.
Let’s not ignore our local gems, lest they be gone.
