After reading about the struggles of the Lewiston Maineiacs and other teams in the Quebec league (Nov. 7-8), I wanted to add my two cents.
Being an avid hockey fan, I travel several times a year to Lewiston for Maineiacs games. It is fantastic hockey. These kids give their all for the entire game and provide some very exciting hockey. There are no better players at that age anywhere.
Lewiston is so lucky to have a team of that caliber. Yes, attendance is down but it certainly isn’t the fault of the players or the kind of hockey they play.
I feel it’s a combination of the economy and quality of “other” sports going on in our area. A black eye could also be when the team was looking to relocate. But the decision to stay should be received with open arms and support from everyone possible. We want the Maineiacs to stay.
The team is constantly doing great public relations in the area. I encourage families to go to a game.
It’s great hockey and the tickets are reasonable, too. The Maineiacs and the players deserve the full support of the community.
Oh, is there any way the Androscoggin Bank Colisee could be moved closer to Dixfield?
