KINGFIELD — Foul play isn’t suspected in the death of a Kingfield man whose body was found by a hunter at about 3 p.m. Friday along Rapid Stream Road, according to a Saturday afternoon report from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

Apparently, Noel Philbrick, 54, had gone for a walk and failed to return, police said. The cause of death will be determined by the Maine State Medical Examiner’s Office.

After being alerted, Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputies Nathan Reid and Nathan Bean responded to the scene and secured it for the ensuing investigation.

“Early indications appear that Mr. Philbrick had taken a walk on the lightly traveled Rapid Stream Road during the late-morning hours,” police said. “Early indications are that this is not a suspicious death. The investigation is ongoing.”

Although he wasn’t hunting, police said Philbrick was properly dressed for the season in a fluorescent orange vest and cap.

Rapid Stream Road is about 4 miles west of Routes 16 and 27 off West Kingfield Road.
