NORWAY — The Norway Memorial Library has announced that eBooks are now available for download by their cardholders through the Maine InfoNet Download Library, which is available online at download.maineinfonet.org or by a link from Norway Library’s website at www.norway.lib.me.us.

More than 1,400 books spanning best-selling fiction, nonfiction, young adult and children’s content are now available through Maine InfoNet as downloadable eBooks. This is in addition to the ever-growing collection of downloadable audiobooks also available at the site, currently totaling over 1,800 books.

The eBook collection is made possible through a grant from the Davis Family Foundation and through contributions from participating libraries from across Maine.

Also known as digital books, eBooks are books that can be read on a computer screen or with portable e-reader devices, such as the Sony Reader, the Kobo and the Nook. The eBooks available from Maine InfoNet are also compatible with most computers, laptops and netbooks and should soon work with the Apple iPad as well as Droid based smartphones. The eBooks available through this system are not supported by the Amazon Kindle.

Detailed information on which devices work with eBooks in the collection is posted on the Download Library website.

To access eBooks or audiobooks, patrons may log in by selecting the name of a participating library and entering their library card number. There is a “Quick Start Guide” that explains how to get started downloading, and library staff are available to help.
