LAGRANGE, Maine (AP) — Police say a 41-year-old woman remains in critical condition after being mauled by a bulldog while out for a walk in her small Maine town.

Maine State Police say Karen Stewart was attacked early Friday evening on a dirt road in Lagrange, about 20 miles north of Bangor.

Trooper Barry Meserve told the Bangor Daily News that the dog bit and dragged Stewart, who was able to make it to a friend’s house for help. Police say she’s been transferred to a hospital in Boston, where she was in critical condition Monday with multiple dog bite wound over her body.

Police say they’ve charged the American bulldog’s owner, 28-year-old Alden Bemis, of Lagrange, with keeping a dangerous animal. The dog has been quarantined.
