LEWISTON — The Great Falls Forum lecture series Thursday will feature Superintendent Leon Levesque offering personal reflections on his 12 years at the helm of the Lewiston School System.
The program will begin at noon Nov. 18 in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library.
The last decade has been one of change for Lewiston’s schools. From state curriculum mandates to the federal government’s No Child Left Behind program, local schools have had to deal with a continually shifting landscape. In addition, the local community welcomed an influx of African immigrants, requiring an unprecedented response for English Language Learning support.
During Levesque’s tenure in Lewiston he has served on various state and national-level boards and committees. His work has been recognized by the Maine School Superintendents Association (Outstanding Leadership Award) and the Maine Commissioner of Education (Award for Outstanding Service).
In his talk this week, Levesque will be recounting the past 12 years, offering insight on the transitions and transformations that have taken place.
Admission is free to all forum events and no reservations are required. Attendees are invited to bring brown-bag lunches, or to take advantage of the forum’s partnership with Guthries cafe and request one of the eatery’s custom-made, gourmet sandwiches or salads to be delivered to the library in advance of the talk. Orders may be placed by calling Guthries at 376-3344. The menu is available at www.guthriesplace.com. Bottled water will be available on site at the library.
The Great Falls Forum is jointly co-sponsored by Bates College, Lewiston Public Library and the Sun Journal. The library is at 200 Lisbon St. at the corner of Pine Street.
