AUBURN — Advances in portable information technology are making digital eBooks an appealing option for many readers. To meet the growing demand for this format, the state’s public libraries have begun purchasing digital eBooks and making them available to their patrons. Auburn Public Library recently unveiled its new eBook lending service.

Suzanne Sullivan of the Auburn Public Library will present a public demonstration of the service at noon Thursday, Nov. 18. The library eBook collection includes over 1,800 titles in various genres. These may be read on the library’s small number of eBook readers, which are available to borrow, or on the patron’s own reader.

Those planning to purchase a reader to use with the service will want to make sure they are buying a compatible model.

The free brown bag lunch program will be held in the library’s Androscoggin Community Room. Attendees are welcome to bring a bagged lunch. For more information, call the reference desk at 333-6640, ext. 4.
