NEWRY — Sunday River Ski Resort’s annual food drive, the Tin Mountain Round Up, will be held this Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 20 and 21.

The Newry resort, which opened on Oct. 22 and temporarily closed on Monday due to warm weather, will reopen for the season this Friday.

To participate in the round up, spokeswoman Darcy Morse said Tuesday that skiers and riders need to bring three items of nonperishable food to benefit the Andover Food Bank.

By participating, they are eligible for discounted lift tickets of $25, which are valid either day.

In other news, the resort hosts its 11th annual Santa Sunday on Dec. 5, where pre-registered skiers and riders wear complete Santa garb in exchange for a free lift ticket to use that day and another valid through Dec. 17, Morse said.

Donations to participate are $10 per Santa, and benefit the Bethel Rotary Club’s annual toy drive.

Resort guests can continue to give via a Coats for Kids drive and the second annual Many Flavors of Sunday River food festival during the inaugural Winterfest Weekend on Dec. 17 and 18.

Throughout the Winterfest Weekend, people can donate a winter coat at the Welcome Center in the South Ridge Base Lodge as part of WCSH’s Coats for Kids Drive.

Those doing so receive $5 off the cost of admission to the Many Flavors event, which is $15.

The event features Bethel area restaurants showcasing their most popular menu items, plus specialty bars featuring beer, wine and local spirits from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18.

Proceeds raised from Many Flavors of Sunday River will go to the Sunday River Region Charitable Fund.

Last year’s Many Flavors raised more than $13,000 for the fund, which is administered through the Maine Community Foundation and dedicated to improving the quality of life in the communities that make up the Sunday River area, Morse said.
