AUBURN – George Campbell of Turner will debut his new book, “Busch North Scene: A Ten Year Retrospective,” at a book launch party Saturday, Nov. 20 at Hilton Garden Inn.
Campbell will be available to sign copies of his book from 2 to 4 p.m.
Campbell covered auto racing for a variety of national and regional publications in the 1990s. In 1999 he launched his own news print publication, Busch North Scene. His goal was to cover NASCAR in the northeast region of the country with the newspaper. Within two years, Campbell and his staff members had grown the paper into the top-selling NASCAR newspaper on newsstands throughout much of New England.
His book recaps the racers, teams and events that shaped the publication and the NASCAR Busch North Series during the 2000 decade. The book contains fun and informative personal reflections from Campbell and Busch North Scene staff members, as well as many of the personalities that made the series popular in the decade.
Campbell grew up in Mechanic Falls, where he attended Elm Street School before graduating from Edward Little High School. He has lived in Turner for more than 20 years.
The book contains more than 330 pages and 125 photos. Among the drivers covered in the book are Maine racers Ricky Craven, Andy Santerre, Joe Bessey, Tracy Gordon and Kelly Moore. Turner racers Mike and Ben Rowe also are mentioned.
NASCAR Championship team owners Steve and Peg Griswold of Grizco Racing are hosting the book signing. Steve Griswold also wrote the foreword for the book. Many of the personalities featured in the book also are expected to attend the book launch, including two-time NASCAR Champion Brad Leighton, who is featured on the cover.
The event is open to the public. Both hard-cover and soft-bound copies of the book will be available for purchase.
