FARMINGTON — Helen Mary Adams Buchanan, 75, of East Wilton, passed peacefully, Thursday, Nov. 18, at the Orchard Park Rehabilitation and Living Center, Farmington, with family at her side.

She was born Oct. 27, 1935, in East Dixfield, a daughter of Harold and Velma (Ranger) Adams. She began her education at the McCrillis Corner School and attended the East Wilton Grammar School. A graduate of Wilton Academy, she was the carnival queen her senior year and was the head majorette for the school.

On Dec. 19, 1953, she married Bucky Buchanan at the East Wilton Union Church. The Rev. Glenn Chaffee officiated. For many years, she taught baton twirling and helped run the family business, Buchanan’s Market, (now known as Shelley’s Market), in East Wilton. She also was employed at the UMF College Bookstore. She will long be remembered as an amazing real estate agent and owner of Sandy River Realty in Farmington.

She enjoyed bowling and participated in the Meadow Lanes bowling league for many years. She was a devoted wife and mother, and in addition to spending time with family and friends, one of her greatest joys was teaching Sunday School at the East Wilton Union Church. She loved the children.

She is survived by her children, Patty Buchanan Estavillo and her husband, John, of California, Paula Buchanan of Farmington, Bill Buchanan and his wife, Johnny Jo, of East Wilton, and Jamie Buchanan and his wife, Pam, of Minnesota; grandchildren, Ian Estavillo, Alyse Estavillo, Matthew Moore, Nicole Moore, Wyatt Buchanan and Paisley Buchanan; brothers, Bradley Adams of Skowhegan and Elvin Adams of East Wilton; sister, Darlene Witham and her husband, Red, of East Wilton; many nieces; and her devoted companion, Cliff Harris, of East Wilton.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Bucky Buchanan; her parents, Harold and Velma Adams; and brother, Albert Adams.
