The Dempsey Challenge is a wonderful way to raise funds for cancer treatment, and the previous two events have certainly been a success.

With the number of past participants, I don’t see any urgency on finding them, yet a recent notice offered a $10 discount for early registration.

A discount you say? The participants are donating the money for a great cause; they’re not looking for a discount.

Is this responsible fiscal management, when the main object is to raise as much money as possible?

On a $100 registration, you would pay $90 now, with a fundraising loss of $10 if the fee was paid next October. That amounts to a 10 percent loss, that certainly won’t be recovered in interest on the $90 collected.

Have I overlooked something in this endeavor?

I hope they get no takers.
