AUBURN — Mary Mack Wakefield, 87, of West Auburn Road, Auburn, died peacefully on Friday, Nov. 19.

She was born in Charlotte, Vt., on Jan. 9, 1923, daughter of the late Michael J. and Christine (Tucker) Mack. She was educated in Burlington, Vt., graduating from Mount Saint Mary’s Academy in 1941 and from Bishop DeGoesbriand School of Nursing in 1944. She was very proud of being a registered nurse and practiced until she had children.

Mary married Robert D. Wakefield, M.D., on June 24, 1948, in Charlotte, Vt. She was a member of St. Joseph’s parish in Lewiston, Maine. She was also an active member of the Taylor Pond Yacht Club, a board member of the Auburn Public Library, and was a founding member of the Quintus Club.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert D. Wakefield, M.D., of Auburn, and six children, Robert D. Wakefield Jr. and his wife, Louise Povall, of Massachusetts, Deborah J. Wakefield and her husband, Robert W. Coakley, of Portland, Sarah W. Kenealy and her husband, John, of Shenzhen, China, John M. Wakefield and his wife, Katherine, of New Mexico, Martha Wakefield and her husband, Pip Shepley, of Massachusetts, and Michael H. Wakefield of Auburn; as well as 11 grandchildren, Robbie and Lesly Wakefield, Molly, John, and Katherine Coakley, Erin, Jake, and Trevor Kenealy, Kaitlyn and Ethan Wakefield, and Christine Wakefield; and a great-grandson, Zen Michael Wakefield.

She was predeceased by a brother, Michael J. Mack; and sister, Alice M. Bushey.
