FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce presented several awards during its annual meeting Friday at the University of Maine at Farmington.
Following a business meeting, President Matt Wotton along with U.S. Sen. Susan Collins’ representative Carlene Tremblay and Maine Sen.-elect Tom Saviello, presented awards, letters of congratulations and Maine legislative sentiments to the following: Poland Spring, large business award; Wilson Lake Inn in Wilton, small business award; Franklin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, nonprofit organization; and Stan Howard, Franklin County Chamber of Commerce Ben Franklin Volunteer of the Year Award 2010.
The Poland Spring Water Co. bottling plant in Kingfield was noted for offering jobs, green business practices, its bottle design and financially supporting different projects around the county and donating water to organizations and events.
This year when the SAD 58 middle school athletic budget was cut, Poland Spring donated the entire amount that was cut and donates bottled water to various organizations, causes and events..
As the winner of the small business award, Wilson Lake Inn in Wilton was noted as one of the jewels of the local community. Landscaping and attention to detail make the Inn a hospitable place for visiting family members, business travelers and vacationers.
The nonprofit award winner, Franklin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary oversees and runs the gift shop located in the hospital and runs several fundraisers throughout the year in order to help fulfill the area’s health-care needs through scholarships and other donations.
The organization’s donations include warming blankets, TVs, the Healing Garden, financial support for the Healthy Community Coalition bus, and the hospital’s helipad, among others.
Volunteer Howard became a member of the Chamber of Commerce in 2010, representing his small business — Abram Audio. He wanted to be more involved and offered his help with coverage in the new Carrabassett office on Route 27 and has volunteered two afternoons a week at that location for the past several months.
During the annual business meeting, outgoing President Wotton welcomed new board members to fill open board positions: Dyan Macomber, Camden National Bank; Becky Tyler, The Sportsman’s Wife; Marty Pike, Cousineau Modular Homes; and Heidi Elliott, Bangor Savings Bank. He also thanked outgoing board member Corey Black, Rocky Hill Landscaping for her service.
Longtime Executive Board member Ivan Gould, Windowman, was recognized and welcomed as the new president. Mike Blanchet of the Sun Journal will move from the regular board to the Executive Board as vice president of membership.
Incoming President Gould presented outgoing President Matt Wotton with a plaque of appreciation for his years of service on the Executive Board and as president of the Chamber for the past three years.
