Rita Dice of Maine Roller Derby spoke to the Oxford Hills Rotary on Nov. 10. She gave a brief history of the Maine league, which was founded in 2006, and talked about some of the rules and the lifestyle that is roller derby. The Maine league started with just a few girls in Portland and now has 40 skaters with two teams. Some of the team members will skate in the Oxford Hills Holiday Parade on Nov. 27 and will sign autographs at the Norway fire station after the parade. Pictured at the meeting, from left, are Rita Dice; Steve Galvin, roller derby “uber fan”; and Joelle Corey-Whitman, president, Oxford Hills Rotary.
