LIVERMORE — Gelia R. “Peggy” Atkinson, 88, of Federal Road, Livermore, passed peacefully in her home on Sunday, Nov. 21.

She was born June 1, 1922, in Readfield, the daughter of Charles Arthur and Alice Victoria (Connors) Handy. She received her education in Readfield schools and on June 24, 1941, married Lawrence Atkinson “Cy” in North Turner. He died March 16.

In addition to being a devoted homemaker, she enjoyed caring for the elderly folks in need of extra assistance in their homes.

For many years, she attended the Jay Baptist Church and most recently, attended the Wayside Bible Baptist Church in Livermore. In her younger years, she taught Bible study to area children in her home. She enjoyed Christian music, composing memorable Christian music of her own to share with children and family members, yodeling, going for nature walks and feeding the birds and a variety of wild creatures at her home.

She is survived by her children, Beatrice “Beady” Farrington and her husband, Norwood, of Jay, Janice Farrington of Jay, April Pomerleau and her husband, Ron, of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Jay and David Atkinson and his longtime companion, Sheila Smith, of Canton; nine grandchildren, Frank Farrington and his wife, Kim, Lawrence “Larry “ Farrington and his wife, Sue, Lisa Michaud and her husband, Norman, Lyn Farrington, Jamie Poland, Allison Taylor and her husband, George, Chadwick Atkinson, Jeremy Atkinson and his wife, Gabriella and Emily Atkinson and her companion, Kevin Timberlake; nine great-grandchildren’ and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son-in-law, Scott J. Poland; and a granddaughter, Laurie Farrington.
