CARTHAGE — The acclaimed national tour “Irish Christmas in America,” featuring Irish ballads and holiday carols, lively fiddle tunes and Irish dancing, will make stops at Unity College Center for the Performing Arts in Unity and Skye Theatre in early December.
The Tuesday, Dec. 7, performance at Unity will begin at 7:30 p.m.; the concert at Skye on Wednesday, Dec. 8, will start at 7 p.m. There will be a preshow jam session 45 minutes prior to curtain at all both venues.
Produced by Oisin Mac Diarmada of the award-winning Irish group Teada, the family-friendly show features top Irish singer and accordion player Seamus Begley. Joining him will be Grainne Hambly and Tommy Martin playing Irish harp and uilleann pipes, Brian Cunningham performing old-style Irish dance and other top musicians and dancers.
Narration will bring to life ancient customs and stories, with photographic images providing a backdrop of historical context.
“One of the most heartfelt themes of Irish Christmas is emigration,” says Mac Diarmada, a renowned fiddler who conceived the show in 2005.
Tickets are $20. Call Skye at 562-4445 or UCCPA at 948-7469. Skye is at 2 Highland Drive in Carthage; UCCPA is at 42 Depot St., Unity.
