RUMFORD — The Rumford Association for the Advancement of the Performing Arts will present “A Musical Christmas Card,” featuring the RAAPA Chorus, a live nativity and dancing, on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 4-5.
Now celebrating its 42nd year, the chorus is made up of singers from Rumford, Mexico, Dixfield, Peru, Sumner and Norway. Among the songs to be performed are “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer,” “Frosty the Snowman,” “White Christmas,” “Joy to the World” and “Angels We Have Heard on High.”
Solos will be presented by Donna Gilbert, Elaine Michaud, Jim Robertson, Shirli Allen, Wayne Landry, Steve Borstelmann, Ken Couch and Connie Venskus.
A highlight of the program will be “Twas the Night Before Christmas,” with the LeDuc family and an early appearance by Santa Claus.
The children’s story will be presented by Gail Parent.
A dance troupe will take the stage during the singing of “The Jingle Bell Rock,” a routine choreographed and directed by Connie Porter. Dancing will be Cindy Bohren, Sue Everett, Doreen Jones and Christine Murphy.
River Valley newcomers Gina and Greg Sullivan will portray Mary and Joseph in the live nativity, along with Alexis Baltrus as the little drummer boy, Jeannine Murray as the Nativity Angel and other local people as shepherds and the Three Wise Men.
Judith Kuhn is musical director with Gail Dorr as accompanist and Angela Oliver as the narrator. RAAPA veteran Wayne Landry designed the sets and heads up the construction, with assistance from Arthur Boivin.
The Saturday performance will begin at 7 p.m. and the matinee on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Muskie Auditorium. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and younger. Tickets may be purchased at Bartash, Port to Port, Log Cabin Craftworks, Hannaford and Larsen’s Electric as well as from cast members. They will also be sold at the door.
