“The Blizzard Wizard,” written by Lynn Plourde; illustrated by John Aardema; Down East; $16.95

Award-winning children’s book author Lynn Plourde of Winthrop has written a new book, “The Blizzard Wizard,” a tale about a possible snowless winter because the lovable, laughable Wizard has misplaced his blizzard spell.

Without snow to make snowballs, go sledding, or build snow forts, children are hoping the spell will be found. In the meantime, the Blizzard Wizard keeps trying with unsuccessful but hilarious results. Eventually, he does find and cast his spell, but not when or where anyone expects.

In “The Blizzard Wizard” Plourde takes a decidedly nonscientific look at the weather, but includes “A Blizzard of Facts” that makes it a fun and informative read for children and adults.

Plourde has written 25 children’s books, including “Wild Child,” a 1999 Lupine Honor Book by the Maine Library Association and an American Booksellers Kids Pick of the Lists, and “Snow Day,” a Los Angeles Times Best Book of the Year.
