SOUTH PORTLAND — Betsey Greenstein, president, Bank of America Maine, will be honored at the14th annual Women of Distinction dinner on Wednesday, Dec. 8, at the Portland Marriott at Sable Oaks. The dinner recognizes a Maine woman who serves as an exemplary role model for today’s girls and young women and acknowledges the unique achievements of women in all fields.

“Betsey was a Girl Scout and she’s a great example of why we like to say that Girl Scouts provides girls of all ages with the skills they need to be tomorrow’s leaders,” said Joan McDonald, CEO of Girl Scouts of Maine. “We are delighted to have the opportunity to celebrate Betsey’s many accomplishments and honored to recognize her as this year’s Woman of Distinction.”

Greenstein has served as president of Bank of America Maine since 1999 and provides business, civic and philanthropic leadership for the bank across the state. She was the first woman to serve as chair of the Maine Bankers Association and, as a commissioner of the Maine State Housing Authority, she was the first woman elected president of the National Council of State Housing Boards.

She was one of the founding tri-chairs of the Maine Mentoring Partnership which has since merged with Jobs for Maine Graduates, and she has served on numerous boards including the Maine State Chamber of Commerce, Cumberland County Civic Center, Maine Children’s Alliance, Mercy Hospital, the United Way Foundation and the Maine Coalition for Excellence in Education.

In addition, she has volunteered with several Greater Portland nonprofits including Well Suited Inc., the AIDS Project and YWCA’s Women of Achievement program.
