PARIS — A family with a 7-month-old baby was left homeless by a fire Thursday morning that destroyed the home they were renting.
Samantha Bean, her boyfriend, Nick Merrill, and their baby daughter were awoken by pounding on the door and escaped the fire, WGME-TV reported.
A fast-moving blaze swept through the two-story, single-family home at 147 Nichol St.
“It’s unbelievable how quick it went,” Merrill told WGME. “It was like it was just starting, and by the time you looked again it was already over.”
The fire was called in shortly before 6:30 a.m. by one of the residents after a hunter driving by saw smoke and flames, stopped to honk the horn on his vehicle and pounded on the front door.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office investigated before declaring that the cause of the fire was accidental. Its origins were unclear.
No injuries were reported.
The local chapter of the American Red Cross responded to the scene and housed the family in a nearby motel, Paris fire Chief Bradley Frost Sr. said.
Merrill’s family has rented the home for 15 years, WGME reported.
The building was not insured, he said.
