DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m in need of your assistance, if I may. I am looking for a double stylus for my 1966 RCA Victor stereo portable phonograph, series YVCS. Hope you can sleuth this out. Thank you. — Karl Windischhofer, Greene
ANSWER: Sun Spots checked on eBay, the usual place to find unusual older items but didn’t have much luck. She suggests that it is the most likely source, however. Perhaps readers will have other suggestions.
There are a couple local businesses that help those not online sell their treasures on eBay. Maybe someone in L-A will start a business buying things for those who need help with that as well?
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Does anyone have or know where I could get a partial set of Corelle dinnerware? The pattern is Blue Velvet. It has a white background with blue flowers (roses?) around the rim.
I am looking for dinner plates in particular. This pattern was made about 12 years ago and is no longer available. I would pay a reasonable price for these. My phone number is 897-5525. — No Name via e-mail
ANSWER: Time to head online. Sun Spots found your pattern at www.replacements.com, www.thefind.com and, of course, eBay, among others. Prices varied widely, from $3 to $12, for a dinner plate. www.corelle.com also sells some of its discontinued patterns, but Blue Velvet wasn’t among them.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Creative Sewing Center currently has two used sewing machines to donate to a church group or civic organization in need. They have been refurbished by Ron from Cote Bros. and are in good working order. Please contact me if your group is interested.
On another note, we have had many kind-hearted sewers busily making Christmas stockings for “Project Christmas Stocking.” We hope to have 100 made by Dec. 10.
We’ve had some generous donations for stocking stuffers, but we are in need of many more. They will be going to children up for adoption, ages 1 to 18.
For those of you who would like to make stockings, we could use your help. We have free patterns available at our store, Auburn Plaza, 730 Center St. (next to Big Lots).
Thanks again, Sun Spots, for all you do for our community. We really appreciate it. — Lisa Blake, Creative Sewing Center, 782-5922
DEAR SUN SPOTS: When I read the Oct. 22 Sun Spots, I just had to laugh. I can understand you not understanding it, but when a southerner says “I am licked up one side and down the other,” he is using the other definition for licked — it’s not suggestive at all. He simply means he feels as if he’s been beat up all over. I know. I am one — a southerner — not licked. — Debbie, South Paris
