NAPLES — A teen boy was transported to an area hospital for evaluation Sunday afternoon after falling through the ice on an inlet of Sebago Lake.

Capt. Andy Bornham of the Naples Fire Department said Sunday evening that the boy was canoeing with a friend when the two decided to get out onto the ice. The teen got out of the canoe and was standing on the ice when it suddenly gave way, and he fell into water that was up to his waist.

Bornham said that the accident occurred about 12:30 p.m. on Sebago Cove in the area known as Muddy River right off Lake House Road.

Bornham said that the boy’s friend pulled him back into the canoe and was paddling the two to shore by the time water rescue crews arrived. He said the boy in the water about 10 minutes.

The teen was transported to Bridgton Hospital for evaluation.
