BERLIN, VT. — Carmelita O. Ames, 71, of Wildersburg Common, Barre, Vt., died Saturday, Nov. 27, at the Central Vermont Hospital, with her family at her bedside, after a brief illness.

She was born Aug. 27, 1939, in Lewiston, the daughter of Donaciano S. and Fernande (Reny) Olquin. She attended schools in Auburn and was a 1957 graduate of Edward Little High School in Auburn.

On Dec. 19, 1959, she married Paul Ames Jr. at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Auburn. After their marriage the couple moved to Philadelphia, Pa., later moving to the Lewiston-Auburn area. In 1986, they moved to Montpelier and finally settled in Barre in 2005.

She had been member of Christ Church in Montpelier. For more than 17 years, she volunteered at the Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center in the activities department and additionally served as a member of the board for Project Independence, in Barre. In earlier years, she enjoyed line dancing.

Besides her husband, Paul, survivors include her daughter, Cheryl L. Ames of Barre; her son, Paul S. Ames of Manchester, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents predeceased her.
