Many times in our society, young adults and teens get a bad rap on their dress, social skills, manners and overall persona. With that said, I would like to express what my husband and I witnessed, along with more than 100 other adults, on Nov. 20.

We attended a very beautiful Kora Shrine event held at the Green Ladle Culinary Arts Institute in Lewiston. Upon entering the building, we were greeted by the most wonderful group of teens that many speak negatively about. Apparently, a metamorphosis had happened, as none of them looked similar to what we see and hear about out in public. Instead, they were polite, well-groomed and self-assured.

That was only the beginning of the most wonderful event my husband and I have attended in years.

Upon being seated, we were amazed at the delivery of the three-course meal that was served. The presentation was beyond belief, the food was delectable and the service was superb.

Hats off to the director, chef and, most importantly, all the students of the program. They went above and beyond their required assignment.

So, I say never judge teens until you get a chance to witness what they are really all about, and certainly we should give them some praise when they do things the “old-fashioned” way, with grace and hard work.

It was a very special evening.
