PERU — Dorothy E. Putnam, 84, died Monday, Nov. 29, at her residence in Peru. She was a resident of the Miller Road.

She was born in Rumford, Jan. 31, 1926, a daughter of the late Basil and Meria (Cayer) Cornish Sr. She attended Rumford schools. She worked as a school crossing guard and also as a police matron for the Rumford Police Department and Oxford County Sheriff Department. She was a member of Mount Zircon Chapter 142, Order of Eastern Star, Purity Rebekah Lodge 56, I.O.O.F.

She was married to the late Claude Haines, and to the late Ceylon Putnam.

Survivors include a brother, Basil Cornish of Rumford; a son-in-law, Eugene Frost of Rumford; two nieces, Donna Cornish of Rumford and Linda Moriarty of Hubbardston, Mass.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Rebecca Frost; a brother, Raymond Cornish; and a sister, Joyce Storer.
