PARIS — The group planning to build a $165 million casino resort in Oxford will hold a public information meeting Tuesday, Dec. 7, at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.
According to Black Bear Entertainment spokesman Mark Robinson, all the company owners will be present to answer questions about the site and plans for the casino, five days after a recount of Question 1 begins in Augusta.
Representatives from the consulting companies Black Bear has hired will answer questions as well, including Main-Land Development Consultants of Livermore Falls, Maine Traffic Resources of Gardiner, Sweet Associates of Falmouth, Summit Geoengineering Services of Lewiston and wetland scientist Kenneth G. Stratton of Winthrop.
Robinson said the hearing will be “a more developed meeting” than the site unveiling at the Oxford Town Office on Nov. 12. He said Black Bear owners and consultants will talk about site location details, traffic mitigation plans, community outreach and other topics.
Robinson said a public hearing is required by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection, and Black Bear will use the forum to unveil updated site plans for the casino.
The casino is planned for a recently-purchased 100-acre lot on Route 26 atop Pigeon Hill. Current plans include a 200-room hotel and a 65,000-square-foot casino building.
According to a University of Maine economist’s report, the casino could provide as many as 2,700 jobs to Maine, including 700 at the casino, 1,000 support-related jobs in the Oxford area and another 1,000 around the state.
CasinosNo! and Oxford Hills No on 1 have requested a recount of the Nov. 2 ballot initiative, which will begin Thursday in Augusta. In unofficial results, Question 1 appeared to have passed by 5,200 votes, but recently released figures from the Secretary of State’s office set the margin at 4,200 votes.
The hearing will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School auditorium.
