LIVERMORE FALLS — Walter L. Ellingwood, 86, a resident of Free Street, Livermore Falls, died unexpectedly at his home Monday, Nov. 29.

He was born March 14, 1924, in Andover, the son of Hollis and Grace (Haskell) Ellingwood. He was a graduate of Rangeley High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On July 14, 1947, at St. Rose of Lima Church, he married his wife of 59 years, Lorraine A. Bilodeau. She passed away Jan. 11, 2007. Walter worked as an instrument man for IP at the Otis Mill in Jay and transferred to the Androscoggin Mill in Jay in 1974, and worked until his retirement in 1986. Walter also served as a Deputy Sheriff for Androscoggin Sheriff Department for many years, retiring in his seventies.

He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay. He was a 3rd and 4th degree KC member and took great pride in that he helped with the weekly Bingo at the KC Hall for the past 50 years. He was also a member of the American Legion George Bunton Post 10 in Livermore Falls and the International Paper Quarter Century Club.

For years, Walter played golf with his friends and was a member at Maple Lane Golf Course in Livermore. Walter enjoyed a daily walk around town, and also took much enjoyment serving as timekeeper for more than 30 years for Livermore Falls High School during their basketball seasons.

Walter was also very active at the Paper Museum in Livermore Falls; he even had his own designated room to work in. Above all else, Walter, a devoted family man, loved the time spent with his family.

He is survived by his children, Kenneth Ellingwood and his wife, Cindy, of Fayette, William Ellingwood and his wife, Joann, of Tampa, Fla., Judith Rae Mann of New Sweden and Patricia Gordon of Jay; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by five sisters; and six brothers.
