AUBURN — The SHAREcenter celebrated Maine Recycles Week, an annual campaign from Nov. 8 to 15, by distributing coin collection cans to a number of local businesses.
The 2010 slogan is “Take a Bite Out of Garbage – Recycle.” Educational and creative materials were distributed for students to repurpose.
Diane Doe, SHAREcenter director, said the center provided supplies to more than 25,000 children and adults in area schools and community groups this year, providing a financial saving to schools and community groups.
Pencils, binders, paper and book bags are some of the most popular selections. “When every student has access to basic supplies, it gives them a level playing field,” said Pat Pelliccia, a retired Auburn teacher.
