SABATTUS — For the second time this season Lake Sabattus has frozen over, and, barring a heavy rain fall, this freeze looks like a permanent one. All day Sunday many went skating at the pond, the skating surface being uniformly a good one, one of the best in recent seasons. Not many ventured far out on the lake but with two more cold nights, the entire lake would be safe for skating.

Two well-known Lewiston businessmen have purchased Bernard’s Super Market, 229 Main St., Lewiston, in a sales transaction totalling about $50,000.
The buyers are Hyman Merson and Louis Prolman, it was announced last night.
The business was bought from Herbert Smaha, another prominent Maine market operator. Merson said last night the market will be remodeled and several departments will be added. It will open for business this morning. The same personnel staff is planned.
25 years ago, 1985
Residents of Pond Road and Mitchell Street left a clear message for Lewiston and state officials: Don’t invite traffic to go through their residential neighborhoods by building a new street connecting Lisbon Street with Pond Road.
While most said they wouldn’t oppose changes allowing better turnpike access to the new South Lewiston Industrial Park on the opposite side of the turnpike, residents opposed any direct link with Pond Road.
