The annual meeting of the C.M.G. Hospital corporation was held Tuesday afternoon with the president, W. D. Pennell, presiding. After the preliminary part of the meeting was over, the matter of the election of the president came up. Mr. Pennell declined a re-election emphatically but several members of the board pressed Mr. Pennell saying that his services were so necessary to the growing prosperity of the hospital that he was again unanimously elected notwithstanding his vigorous protests. He consented to serve another year.
50 years ago, 1960
Alderman Gregory W. Weber of Lewiston said yesterday a police department decision to place stop signs all around the Russell-College streets intersection has just about erased the accident problem there.
Stop signs were originally located on the Russell Street approaches but were switched recently to College Street. But accidents continued at a regular pace. The LPD then put in stop signs at all four corners. Since then, the intersection has been accident free.
25 years ago, 1985
The Mountain Valley Conference Principals held its monthly meeting recently at Graziano’s Restaurant, hosted by William Schenck, principal of Lisbon High School.
The principals discussed scheduling athletic contests to maximize the amount of time the students spend in class. Principals were unanimous in supporting the philosophy of supporting students and teachers in the classroom, and making adjustments in travel times, contest starts and schedules to enhance maximum class time.
