GORHAM — Marie-Paule G. Badeau, 81, formerly of 231 Central Ave.,Lewiston, and a resident of the Gorham House in Gorham since 2004, died at the Gorham House on Saturday, Dec. 4.

She was born in Lewiston, June 20, 1929, the daughter of Odilion and Alexina Blais Labadie. Educated in local schools, and a graduate of St. Dominic High School, she married Edmond L. Badeau on 1950. Marie was an educator for more than 35 years in the Lewiston school system. A state-certified “master teacher,” she earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Maine at Farmington, and a master’s degree from the University of Southern Maine. She had mentored numerous teachers-in-training, and was a first-grade teacher at Longley School, where she implemented a number of programs.

In addition to her teaching career, she has served on a number of local committees and has been involved in a number of church and community projects. She was instrumental in organizing the Franco-American Festival for 10 years, and managed the Café C’est Si Bon. She has served as president of both the Saints Peter and Paul’s Parish Council, and the Ladies of Saint Anne, as well as vice president and acting secretary of the Saint Peter and Paul Society.

She has also served as a religious education coordinator and teacher, as a Vacation Bible School Director, and was active in numerous initiatives within her parish. She also tutored adults at the Lewiston Adult Education Program, and taught reading in the local Somali community.

Survivors include three sons, Roger and wife, Susan, of Sherborn, Mass., Marc and wife, Margo, of Gorham and Paul and wife, Rebecca, of Gorham; a sister, Sister Gilberte Labadie of Quebec City, P.Q., Canada; and six grandchildren, Mikael, Marissa, Crystal, Jason, Noah and Gabriel Badeau.
