DIXFIELD — Anyone wanting to help people and pets in need this holiday season have at least two chances in downtown Dixfield.
Norine Clarke, owner of Log Cabin Craftworks on Main Street, is again having her business serve as a drop-off point for the annual Christmas for Kitties drive.
All cat food, litter, pet toys and monetary donations collected will be turned over to Brenda Jarvis and Caddy Smith, operators of a shelter for feral cats, on Dec. 24. The sisters feed, care for and get medical attention for the cats in the Pine Street shelter.
Clarke’s business is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesdays through Fridays, then from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays to collect donations.
The parking lot of the crafts business will also host the third annual food drive operated by Barbara Lane of Peru, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18. Lane operates Hot Colors Screening and Design in Norway, and has donated time and T-shirts to gathering non-perishable foods and cash for the food pantries at the Dixfield Common Road Baptist Church and the Peru Baptist Church.
Each person who donates three or more food items or a minimum of $5 cash will receive a T-shirt with a Christmas design on it. Lane will also hold a raffle for an American Girl-style, 18-inch doll, and two outfits, made by her mother, Elizabeth Lane during the food collection.
