OXFORD — An early morning blaze Tuesday destroyed a home despite Oxford Fire Department’s efforts.
Oxford firefighters needed 20 minutes to knock down the flaming walls of the house at 276 Pleasant St., but it took several hours to fully extinguish all the hot spots, Oxford fire Capt. Shawn Cordell said. The call was put in at 1:30 a.m. by Ross and Donna Damon, the home’s residents.
The fire began near a wood stove, which was in use at the time, and spread up the walls and roof, Cordwell said. The house, a trailer with additions, was “a total loss,” Cordwell said.
Officials valued the house and its contents at $81,500. The residents, who are now staying with family, did not have insurance on the house, Cordwell said.
