PORTLAND — The Celtic punk ensemble Flogging Molly will bring its traditional Celtic sounds, hard-edged punk and thoughtful lyrics to the State Theatre as part of its seventh annual Green 17 Tour.

Flogging Molly’s live shows have garnered a loyal following that matches the band’s energy night after night.

The Green 17 Tour was born in 2004, as a countdown to St. Patrick’s Day with a performance celebration in each city leading to the holiday.

Members of Flogging Molly have spent the last three months in Detroit, Mich., writing songs for the follow-up to their acclaimed 2008 release, “Float,” which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200, No. 1 on the Billboard Independent Albums Chart and No. 2 on the Billboard Alternative Album Chart.

The lively, seven-member band is currently in Asheville, N.C., recording with producer Ryan Hewitt. Songs from the upcoming 2011 release will be performed during the Green 17 Tour.

The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at the theater at 609 Congress St. Tickets are $30 in advance, $32 day of show. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11. They be available at the Cumberland County Civic Center box office, by calling 800-745-3000 and online at www.statetheatreportland.com.
