Coach: Mike Hathaway (third year)
Last year’s record: 8-10
Returning letter winners: Seniors — Lucas Witham (6-1 guard), Kyle Smith (6-0 guard), Matt Janosco (6-1 guard), Devin Long (5-10 guard), Tyler Allen (6-4 center); Juniors — Tyler Walton (5-10 guard), Jordan Hersom (6-3 forward), Tim Dow (6-2 forward).
Key losses: Cam Griffin, Noah Poto, Shawn Berry.
Promising newcomers: Juniors — Greg Lake (6-2 forward), Dustin Collins (6-4 center); Freshmen — Andrew Middleton (6-3 forward), Zac Goulette (5-11 guard).
Outlook: The Hornets return four starters, including the backcourt of Witham and Smith and the all-around talents of Hersom, one of the top players in KVAC Class B. Allen, Witham and Hersom are three-year starters and were Leavitt’s top three scorers and rebounders last season. Smith, a defensive stalwart, has improved his game on offense. Hathaway expects the Hornets to go at least 10 players deep most nights. Leavitt is athletic enough to push the tempo and play more man-to-man defense than in past seasons. The playoffs are within reach.
Coach’s comment: “Our guard play is as good as it’s been since I have been here. Hersom and Allen should be a good one-two punch in the frontcourt.” — Coach Mike Hathaway
