100 years ago,1910

There was some little excitement yesterday for a few minutes on Broad Street. A bundle sale was in progress at the department store of J. J. Shapiro Bros., and a lady who was at the sale left her baby in a carriage in the dry goods department. Another lady hearing the baby crying thought to get it nearer to its mother pushed the carriage into the small wear department. Soon the mother came back and not finding the baby where she left it became alarmed and raised a cry that the youngster had been stolen and rushed out onto the street. Matters were soon straightened out, and the baby returned to its mother.

50 years ago, 1960

Seven Auburn skating rinks are ready for use and more are being prepared, it was announced last night by Harry Jones Jr., Auburn recreation director.

Jones said the rinks at Walton Field, Pettengill Park, Stevens Mills Road and East Auburn are ready for skating and that the St. Louis, Sacred Heart and Pulsifer rinks will be ready soon if the cold weather continues.

25 years ago, 1985

The Lewiston-Auburn Area Chamber of Commerce “wholeheartedly applauds” a fully staffed Better Business Bureau for Maine through the Boston office of the BBB, chamber executive vice president William C. Harkins said Monday night. Harkins’ remarks followed the announcement Monday that a new office will open in Portland at the first of the year.
