TURNER — John James Kuroly, 92, of Sumner, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 8, at his son’s home.
He was born in Corona, N.Y. on April 6, 1918, the son of Joseph and Mary Frantz Kuroly. He graduated from Newtown High School where he was very athletic, winning many awards and trophies for track and field, basketball and gymnastics. He served his country in the U. S. Army.
He married Margaret Hanarahan on April 25, 1943. He had a radio/TV repair business and worked as a machinist. He was a member of the radio ministry as a pastor and held his pilot’s license.
He loved animals, gardening and snowmobiling. He enjoyed skiing well into his 70s.
He is survived by four sons, John Jr. and Kathy of Patchogue, N.Y., Donald and Karen of Patchogue, N.Y., Michael and Kathy of Turner and Kurt and Maryjane of Rensselaer, N.Y.; two daughters, Anne Kuroly of Rensselaer, N.Y. and Jeannette Kuroly of Dover, N.H.; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife on Aug. 20, 2005; and two sons, Gerard and Thomas.
