LEWISTON — Maurice R. Camire, 66, a resident of Rachel Street, Sabattus, formerly of Old Orchard Beach and Lewiston, died peacefully Thursday at St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion with his wife, Jacqueline, by his side, following a seven-year illness of Alzheimer’s disease and other complications.
He was born in Lewiston, Oct. 8, 1944, the son of Roger and Yvonne (Plourde) Camire.
Maurice grew up in Lewiston and attended Lewiston schools, graduating from Lewiston High School in 1963. He married the love of his life, Jacqueline Begin, on Sept. 18, 1965. He went on to serve the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict from 1968 to 1973.
After Vietnam, Maurice worked as a dental technician in Norway, and then went on to Shaw’s Supermarkets for 27 years, retiring from the Shaw’s Supermarket in Saco.
He enjoyed the ocean and long walks along Old Orchard Beach where he and his wife shared a condo together with their family. Maurice’s other passion was being an avid sportsman, coaching all area youth sports, which was his greatest life’s enjoyment.
Survivors include his mother, Yvonne Camire of Lewiston; wife, Jacqueline Camire of Sabattus; two sons, Rodney Camire and wife, Tracey, of Sicklerville, N.J., and Gary Camire and wife, Irene, of Leominster, Mass.; one daughter, Carol Rossignol and her companion, Tom Pratt, of Center Barnstead, N.H.; one sister, Lorraine Desrochers and husband, Rene, of Auburn; 9 grandchildren, Logan and Ryan Rossignol, Brooke and Aaron Pratt, Linsey, Jacob, and Aidan Camire, and twin sisters Sarah and Olivia Camire; and two nieces, Joline Lajoie and Debbie Jacques.
He was predeceased by his father, Roger Camire.
Maurice’s wife, Jackie, would like to extend her heartfelt gratitude to the corporate management and employees of Shaw’s Supermarket in Saco for their compassion shown to her husband during his illness.
