BRUNSWICK — Why shouldn’t an actress get a chance to portray one of the meanest roles ever written?
The Theater Project will present a Young People’s Theater production of “Ms. Scrooge,” running Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 17-19.
“Ms. Scrooge” is a new re-telling of Charles Dickens’ classic tale “A Christmas Carol,” featuring an all-female cast. Made up of local junior high students, the Young People’s Theater has made the show its own, under the direction of Elise Hedblom, a Theater Project alum and now a teacher at the theater.
Edna Scrooge has sacrificed human feelings of love and friendship to become a success. To her, Bobbie Crachit is merely an impersonal office machine. Alone on Christmas Eve, the overworked Edna hallucinates — with the help of ghosts — about her grim past and even colder future.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are pay what you want, with a suggested price of $6. Tickets are available online at www.theaterproject.com or by calling 729-8584. The Theater Project is at 14 School St.
