RUMFORD — Funeral services with full military honors for Pfc. Buddy W. McLain, U.S. Army, were conducted Saturday at the Mountain Valley High School, Rumford, with Pastor John Gensel and Chaplain Eric Weigelt officiating. The service was began with the playing of the “National Anthem.” Special music “Live Like You Were Dying” and “Last Kiss” were sung by guitarist and close friend, Jamie Virgin. Pastor Gensel gave the eulogy, which was followed by Natasha Tilberg singing “Amazing Grace.” Words of remembrance were by his wife, Chelsea McLain, his father, Larry McLain and a close friend of the family, Charlotte Louvat. Reading of record of service was by Maj. Gen. John W. Libby. Presentation of state awards was by Gov. John E. Baldacci and presentation of federal Awards was by Brig. Gen. Michael H. Shields. Presentation of Currahee Flags was by Maj. Todd Mitchell. Parting comments and benediction was by Chaplain Eric Weigelt. Attending the services were delegations from the American Legion, VFW, Patriot Guard Riders and Civil Air Patrol. Escort services and traffic control were provided by state, county and local law enforcement, Mexico Explorers and local fire departments. Committal services were conducted by Pastor Gensel and Chaplain Weigelt at the Demerritt Cemetery, Peru. Military honors from the Maine Military Funeral Honors Program of Augusta provided honor guard, bearers, color guard, firing squad, “taps” and presentation of four American flags. A reception followed at Mountain Valley High School in the cafeteria. Arrangements were under the care of the Meader and Son Funeral Home.
