TURNER — Leavitt held Waterville scoreless for nearly the entire second quarter when the Hornets broke the game open en route to a 64-30 triumph in a KVAC Class B boys’ basketball game Tuesday.

The Hornets (2-0) outscored Waterville 21-3 during the decisive second quarter to open a 39-14 advantage by halftime. Tim Dow hit two 3-pointers, while Devin Long and Kyle Smith buried one each in the second quarter. Waterville didn’t score until the final 30 seconds of the period.

Leavitt used a balanced attack with Dow leading the eay with 12 points. Smith and Jordan Hersom each scored nine points, while Lucas Witham added eight points, four steals and four assists. Herson was a force underneath with 11 rebounds.

Brandon Braley had 10 points for Waterville.

Gardiner 49, Oak Hill 31

GARDINER — The Gardiner Tigers used a 24-10 run in the second half to pull away for a 49-31 victory over Oak Hill.

Oak Hill (0-2) held the lead early but Gardiner (2-0) finished the first quarter with a 15-14 advantage, before extending that to 25-21 at the half. The Tigers’ defense limited Oak Hill to three points in the final quarter to pull away with the 18-point victory.

Mike Trahan led Gardiner with a game-high 13 points, while Aaron Toman added 12.

Brian Bradstreet scored seven points to pace oak Hill. Cam Morin and Trever Samson each chipped in with six points.

Rangeley 47, Greater Portland Christian 36

PORTLAND — Rangeley used a 14-5 run in the fourth frame to pull away to a 47-36 victory over Greater Portland Christian.

Alex Morton led the Lakers (2-0) with a game-high 21 points, while Jordan Richard chipped in with 14.

Greater Portland Christian (1-1) was paced by Brad Hammond with 15 points, the only player in double figures.

York 54, Gray-NG 48

GRAY — Aaron Todd poured in 23 points to propel York to a 54-48 victory over Gray-New Gloucester.

Liam Langaas chipped in for York with 12 points in what was basically a two-man attack.

The Patriots (0-2) were led by Adam Jensen with an 18-point performance, while Josh Farynaz added 16.

Livermore Falls 78, Mt. Abram 41

LIVERMORE FALLS — Senior center Mike Armstrong shoveled in 21 points on 10 baskets and a free throw to lead Livermore Falls to a 78-41 triumph over Mt. Abram in boys’ basketball action Tuesday.

The Andies (1-1) put up 17 points in each of the first two quarters to take a 34-12 lead at the break. Livermore Falls continued strong with 25 points in the opening frame of the second half.

Senior forward Mike Castonguay recorded 18 points on nine baskets, while Hunter Brett chipped in with 12 points, five assists and three steals for the Andies.

Ian James led the Roadrunners (0-2) with six field goals for 12 points in the losing effort.

Richmond 53, Buckfield 22

BUCKFIELD — Junior guard Michael Christie posted 14 points to pace Richmond to a 53-22 victory over Buckfield in boys’ basketball action Tuesday.

Both teams played even in the first quarter, but the Bobcats (2-0) jumped out ahead with a 17-2 run in the second quarter for a 25-12 halftime lead.

Senior guard Tom Carter chipped in with 13 points for Richmond.

Junior guard Alan Hedrick collected four baskets, including one from 3-point range to provide the Bucks (1-1) with nine points in the losing effort.

Lewiston 40, Erskine 27

LEWISTON — Shawn Ricker put down a game-high 12 points and Corbin Hyde added 10 points and hauled in 11 rebounds to lead Lewiston to a 40-27 victory over Erskine.

Ricker and Cody Mousseau dropped in a pair of 3-pointers each for the Blue Devils (2-0).

Tyler belanger had eight points to lead the Eagles.

Cape Elizabeth 56, Poland 52

CAPE ELIZABETH — Poland threw another scare into one of the traditional WMC boys’ basketball powers Tuesday night before falling 56-52 at Cape Elizabeth.

Poland (0-2) watched a four-point lead turn into a nine-point deficit in the first half. But the Knights closed to within three at 34-31 at halftime and kept the margin between one and five points the rest of the way.

Theo Bowe led the Capers (2-0) with 26 points. Cam Brown added 17.

Jordan Chase topped the Knights with 15 points. He was 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. Jake Littlefield chipped in 13 points. Jonah Farrington had 10.

Maranacook 47, Lincoln 42

READFIELD — Senior guard Jack Kennedy poured in 22 points to lead Maranacook to a 47-42 triumph over Lincoln.

The Black Bears (2-0) put a little distance between themselves and the Eagles (0-2) in the third quarter with a 15-8 run. Kyle Boucher scored six points and posted 10 rebounds with six blocks for Maranacook.

Forwards Stephen Quinlan and Brandon Reilly posted eight points apiece for Lincoln Academy in the losing effort.
