NORWAY — Agren Appliance is set to open the doors of its new Main Street store Monday morning, showcasing three floors of furniture and appliances.
“We’re moving in,” said owner Jason Agren. “We started yesterday with the intent of being open on Monday.”
The business had operated a store on Main Street in Paris since 1986.
The new store is at 313 Main St. where Main Street Furniture and Appliances had operated.
The new 25,000-square-foot space, has allowed Agren to increase his inventory significantly to include furniture.
“We’ve expanded. We have the room to do it . . . and there have been lots of requests,” Agren said. “We’ve made a significant investment with the inventory. The second floor will be all furniture.”
He said he has always carried some furniture in his Auburn store but not in the Paris location. Because the Oxford Hills customers were used to buying furniture locally, it seemed a natural extension, he said.
The full showroom in the basement will carry bedroom sets, the main floor will have appliances and the second floor will have furniture.
Agren said his company intends to become a visible part of the Norway community and he has sought to use local contractors to renovate the space. The work included refinishing the original maple floor, some Sheetrock work and painting the interior walls, installing new carpeting, energy-efficient lighting, first-floor windows and other items.
The only thing that’s missing now are some display signs that are being sent by the appliance manufacturers. “It won’t be perfect,” Agren said of the set-up in place on Monday.
The store will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. A grand opening will be held later next month.
The 40-year-old, family-owned business has stores in Norway, Auburn, Brunswick, South Portland and Waldoboro.
