WINDHAM — Dorothy Rose Abbott, 93, of Mechanic Falls, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on Monday, Dec. 13.

She was born in Greene, Dec. 19, 1916, the daughter of Oliver Newman Rose and Virginia E. Lawrence Rose. She graduated from Leavitt Institute in 1935, and CMG Hospital School of Nursing in 1938. She married Fred Otis Abbott on Oct. 25, 1941 in Portsmouth, N.H.

She worked in a hospital as an operating room nurse and at the blood bank until 1943. She was the operating room supervisor at Stephens Memorial Hospital from 1961 to 1968. She had been employed part-time at Kmart from 1971 to 1984.

She enjoyed camping, traveling, knitting, sewing, reading, dancing and crafts. She was a Cub Scout den mother. She was a lifetime member of both the CMG Nurse’s Alumni and the Ladies Auxiliary Rural Carriers Association. She was also a member of the Mechanic Falls Methodist Church, Minot Corner Methodist Church, Oxford Grange 46, Pamona Grange 2 and the Maine State Grange.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna Cobb and her husband, James, of Windham; her son, Robert Abbott and his wife, Patricia, of Mechanic Falls; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Louise Rose Youland of New Hampshire; a son-in-law, Robert Blair of Cold Springs, Nev.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Fred in 1969; a daughter, Carolyn Blair in 2008; a brother, Charles Rose in 1990; and a great-grandchild.
