DEAR SUN SPOTS: In November the Knights of Columbus served 194 free dinners to people with the help of Franklin Savings Bank and our other supporters and volunteers.

After the free public supper on Saturday, Dec. 18, we will have completed a full year of providing high-quality suppers to those that come to us.

Doors for the supper at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 148 Main St., Jay, will open at noon to help people stay warm and socialize, with food served from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

The menu includes turkey pot pie along with ham, soup, bread, veggies and desserts.

St. Rose of Lima Boy Scout Troop 199 will be helping us serve, along with our other wonderful volunteers. Donations accepted.

To use the elevator: Come in the back door, ring and hold down buzzer on stairwell wall. You will hear it. We will come help you.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: For those suffering from the death of loved ones, with families in crisis or for those whose memories of this time of year are just not good ones, it can be a very isolated and dreary time.

On the longest night of the year, Dec. 21, Calvary United Methodist Church, 59 Sabattus St., will be hosting a Blue Christmas service at 7 p.m., offering a variety of music and silence interspersed with readings from Scripture and prayers of solace and hope.

We would like to invite everyone to this time, which might enable them to find some light in the darkness. Thank you. — Rev. Casey Collins, calvarylewiston@yahoo.com

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In the past I have seen in your column information about someone uses old greeting cards for art projects.

I have many that I would be happy to donate. Could you please publish the address and name to whom the cards should be sent?

I would be glad to cut off the greeting part and signatures if that is the way the person wants them. thank you. — No Name, Auburn

ANSWER: Sun Spots does not recall requests for cards for art projects, but she has mentioned the work done by St. Jude’s Ranch for Children.

According to www.stjudesranch.org, they are now accepting all cards — not just Christmas. You can mail them to St. Jude’s Ranch for Children Recycled Card Program, 100 St. Jude’s St., Boulder City, NV 89005.

They then sell the recycled cards at 10 for $10. Along with Christmas cards, they sell Easter, birthday, thank you and other all-occasion cards.

To shop, visit them online, write to the address above or call 877-977-SJRC (7572).

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Due to Sunday’s inclement weather, Mexico First Baptist Church was forced to postpone the Christmas Cantata “One King” to this coming Sunday, Dec. 19, at 10:45 a.m.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends was told at the last minute that because of new corporate rules, it could not have its annual holiday bake sale, set for this weekend, inside the store.

Instead, Pet Quarters on Center Street in Auburn will be hosting our bake sale on Dec. 18-19. Please bring your baked goods there.

If you want me to pick up your donations, call 650-8374.

Please come and celebrate the love and life of all animals by buying some of our baked goods. Help us do what we do best — save lives. — Norm via e-mail
