AUBURN — Fernand Leo Chabot, 90, of 126 Loring Ave., Auburn, died on Dec. 15, at the Androscoggin Hospice House, surrounded by loving family members.
He was born on July 16, 1920, the youngest son of Hector and Eveline Parent Chabot.
After serving his country as a U.S. Army staff sergeant in France during World War II, he attended the University of Montreal Dental School, where he obtained his DDS degree with a specialty in orthodontics. He established the first orthodontic practice in the Lewiston-Auburn area in 1951. On Sept. 10 of that same year, he married Marie-Reine Bail.
He was an active member of the Lewiston-Auburn Rotary Club for 25 years and a devoted parishioner of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish at St. Louis Church. He lived an extremely active life and particularly enjoyed skiing and golf. He was a member of Martindale Country Club for more than 40 years.
After his retirement in 1985, he and Marie spent many an enjoyable winter in the Daytona Beach area. Throughout his life, his most cherished moments were times spent with family and friends.
He will be dearly missed by Marie, his loving and devoted wife of 59 years; daughter, Carmen Pope and her husband, Jeff, of Beverly, Mass.; son, Marc Chabot and his wife, Joanie, of Auburn; daughter, Renee Healy and her husband, Steve, of Turner and son, Jacques Chabot of Poland; nine grandchildren, Elizabeth Turcotte, Nicholas Healy, Nicole Chabot-Wieferich, Katelyn Chabot, Kristen O’Neill, Alexandra Chabot, Stephanie Healy, Kelly Pope and David Pope; three great-grandchildren, Madisyn Turcotte, Tyler Turcotte and Jonathan O’Neill; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by eight siblings, Leo Chabot, the Rev. Armand Chabot, Lucienne Chabot, Eliane Chabot, the Rev. Lucien Chabot, Bertrand Chabot, Marcel Chabot and Madeleine Blais; and two grandsons, Tom and Christopher Pope.
