Pauline Marsh, left, of Lewiston and Carol Fortier of Lisbon gather food baskets that were handed out to 107 families at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Lewiston on Thursday. Members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society collected food for Christmas dinner, children’s gifts, mittens and hats for families falling on hard times, said Marie Fabrizio, former society president. Each year, more baskets are given out than the previous year, said Fabrizio said. “Last year we made 64 and this year we have 107,” she said. Parishioners of the Prince of Peace Parish donated many of the items. Perishable food came from Blackie’s Farm Fresh Produce in Auburn. “If I can’t donate to the church, who can I donate to?” farm owner Blackie Labbe told Marsh, the society’s current president.
